Movica has been written for somebody who likes to use shortkeys. Although later revisions of the utility have more buttons and menus, there are always chances that you have some features accessible only through the keyboard. The keyboard shortcuts are loosely based on those in VirtualDub and Media Player Classic. [In the hope that you are as fond of these programs as I am]

In the most recent versions I have reworked the player controls to provide buttons for making all the selections. Instead of taxing my limited verbal skill, I have decided to use pictures to describe the tools features. In the following annotations, the square parenthesis are the keyboard shortcuts. The player controls are very much like the Media Player Classic except for the two button to allow marking of selections
The right pane shows all the selections made. You can further edit this list by copying and/or deleting selections.
The sequence of the selections can be changed to excercise your editing and montage creativity. This is currently one feature that is supported only through keyboard shortcuts. In future releases this may be done through drag and drop rearrangement (in case somebody requests it - I prefer the keyboard version]
The selections made might require some fine tuning, this can be done through the fine tuning sliders that show when one (and only one) selection is highlighted in the right pane. You can then fine tune the selections by using either the mouse or the keyboard shortcuts (in square parenthesis below)
Finally, the edited files can be saved. This can be done in two ways
- Saving all the selections
- Discarding the selections and saving the rest of the file
This really depends on whether you are better at picking what you like or throwing out what you don't.
The short-cut keys are shown on the pull-down menus for your reference.
Though not always required, you might want to proof test your edits. This can readily be done using the options under the Play menu. Ctrl + T allows you to play just the highlighted selections. This way you can experiment with what selections make the most sense.
The next set of usability enhancements will be on providing markers on the player timeline to show the selections
Joining Files
The preceding section dealt with editing a single file. However there are times when you have to join files together. This function does not rely on as many keyboard shortcuts as the rest of the application
An alternate way of building the list of files to be joined is to select of them in Windows Explorer and drag them on to the application.
MoviClips
Though we started out as an editor, there is rudimentary playing capability in Movica. This has been done to support logical edits without having to physically edit the file. Unfortunately, this is quite useless if you would like to play the file in your favourite player. These logical edits are what I call MoviClips (hey, I had to call them something !)
