Introduction
Is it just me or is RealMedia gaining in popularity. I was not a big fan of the RealPlayer (use Real Alternative instead) and still try to avoid it as much as possible. However thanks to CarTalk I have to have it installed. Recently our company started using Real Media for our internal videos. So have been trying to get Movica to work with this format. Though there is hardly ever anything useful in these videos that one might like to edit and keep ;)
Prerequisites
So what do you have to have.
- RealMedia Splitter - This is an open source project (God bless SourceForge) that is basically a directShow filter that allows Movica to play the .rm movie for us to make the selections
- RMeditor - the command-line tool to help with the editing. This is bundled with the basic (free) version of the Real Producer 11. Real Producer can be downloaded from the following link. In keeping with the pesky design of all Real products you have to fill a form before you can download it.
Downloading and Installing RealMedia Splitter
I think I got the splitter through Real Alternative. If you want you can download it from SourceForge and install just that.
If you decide to take the DIY route (i.e. without Real Alternative) you will get a file with and extension of .ax
Please use this very useful guide on installing this on your computer
Configuring Movica
Thankfully you will need to do nothing to configure Movica to start using this. When Movica starts it will check to see if the splitter is installed and enable the feature. If you already have Movica running and would rather not restart it, check the 'Enable this tool' box on 'Add Tools' tab.
Currently Movica will not find rmeditor if is not saved in the default location. This will get remedied in future releases.
